A new vampire will not be the only problem in The Vampire Diaries season 4. While the Elena story will be a big one, there is plenty of other stuff happening in creepy old Mystic Falls when the show returns. What exactly? Keep reading for a whole lot of Vampire Diaries season 4 spoilers!
Despite the obvious need for some secrecy and anticipation about The Vampire Diaries season 4, executive producer Julie Plec has been talking to a lot of people about several upcoming developments. These are just a few of them:
There will be a new, mysterious villain in The Vampire Diaries season 4:
Julie Plec: "It's funny. I realized, as we look back at the first three seasons, we've always known who our [villain] was -- at least we thought we knew -- from the very beginning. This year, we're trying something a little bit different where we're not so sure who's pulling the strings and why." (Source: The Hollywood Reporter)
When it comes to hot vampire sex, we may not get to watch:
Julie Plec: "I'm not going to say she's not having loads of vampire sex off camera that we're not showing, but we have not yet shot a complete sexual act this season between Elena and anybody." (Source: TVGuide.com)
The Salvatore brothers will differ in how to teach Elena about being a vampire:
Julie Plec: "Damon's point of view in all of this is that anything [Stefan is] trying to do to avoid Elena being a real vampire is just a delusional delay of the inevitable. While he can understand and appreciate that Stefan wants to protect her, [Stefan is] making a huge mistake because when all is said and done, [according to Damon]: 'Name one vampire who went through the newbie phase and didn't take a life. Name me one vampire that didn't go off the rails, name me one vampire who didn't turn off their humanity for a while.' So that's where the conflict lies between Stefan and Damon. Stefan wants to protect her from that at all costs, and Damon is saying, 'It's going to happen' you may as well rip the Band-Aid off and let it bleed. '" (Source: TVGuide.com)
Being a vampire might not be so easy for Elena:
Julie Plec: Elena has a lot of things working against her. There's the fact that her defining characteristic as a human being is her compassion for others which, as a vampire, is magnified and makes it very difficult to feed on a human being or an animal. Everything is heightened, so it's a whole new Elena that's magnified in catastrophic ways. (Source: TVGuide.com)
The ancestral witches are mad at Bonnie:
Julie Plec: "The witches aren't necessarily too happy with Bonnie dabbling in the dark side, so she goes through a pretty rough time in the first episode as she tries to do what she does best -- which is save her friends -- and finds the witches pushing back a little too hard." Thus, Bonnie needs some guidance:
Julie Plec: "Bonnie's going to find a new mentor in a professor at the local university, where her grandmother used to teach... He's going to be very, very, very, very brilliant and well-versed in the world of the supernatural." (The Hollywood Reporter)
Elena, Bonnie and Caroline will still be friends:
Julie Plec: "I think that the good news is that Elena's friendships will remain solid as she herself is crumbling a little bit." (Source: The Hollywood Reporter)
The more things change, the more they stay the same for Matt -- way too much interest from girl vampires:
Julie Plec: "All I can say is, as a human, he is definitely a blood source [for Elena], so we'll see where that goes."
"Rebekah, poor thing, is still harboring her secret fling for Matt -- and it isn't so secret anymore. First thing that she tries to do with him is apologize for running him off the road. And he pretty much tells her to go to hell. If she's ever going to get any attention with Matt, she's going to have to change her behavior and go about it in a different way."
